Being offered is a very nice old antique and large Gilbert Islands (formerly Kingsmill Islands) and one that would most likely date to the 19th century. This sword club measures 57 1/2” long. It has been drilled with 98 holes that each would have been strung and had a sharks tooth. About 65 remain that are complete or mostly complete condition and then about 6/8 more that have broken off with just the very bottom of the tooth remaining. The wood is palmwood and it shows nice patina and age. This sword club had a cross guard at one time which still remains but needs to be reattached. It has about a dozen teeth on it. An impressive ethnographic item. Please e-mail with any questions. Please view my other auctions for a great variety of swords, daggers and tribal art.
