Being offered is a very nice old antique African shield with very vibrant colors and in excellent condition overall. This is a large shield measuring 38” high by 24” wide. Because of its size it will be expensive to ship but well worth it given the beautiful colors and condition of this shield. The front of the shield has vibrant red, white and black colors in a lovely tribal pattern that most likely indicates which tribe this shield belongs to. Stylistically, it is very similar to Massai shields but the patterns are a bit different so my guess is it is one of the neighboring tribes. The shield is made from leather with leather strips carefully strung around the shield with a wood insert on the reverse to hold the shield. The back of the shield shows the natural color of the leather and the wood handle which has nice patina. Other than a few very minor scuffs on the front the shield is in very good condition. A wonderful African shield that would date to around the 1920’s. Please e-mail with any questions. Please view my other auctions for a great variety of swords, daggers and tribal art.
