This is an unusual Woodlands card case in that it is oversize with an extra flap. As it has four distinct sections, as opposed to the usualthree of normal card cases, it could have been a book cover (as in the Catholic Missal); however, book covers usually have morereinforcement of the spine. I think the fusion of styles is an influence of Huron/Wendat and/or possibly Mohawk out of Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada. The body is black velvet, the beads are micro beads in an elaborate floral with wonderful rose white hearts, some of the tiniest I have seen. The craftsmanship of the maker is obvious. There is some bead loss to the edging and some of the tiny brass paillettes are missing. At some point someone added a metal snap closure and, in doing so, sewed the inside pocket for the calling card closed. MEASURES: 5 inches wide by 3.25 inches high folded; 9.5 inches long (body); 12.5 inches long unfolded with beaded tab. Please email with questions. Thank you for looking.
